Default Walker Evans shocks?

Im looking at getting a long travel leveling kit from Currie. They recommend either the Rancho 9000XL or Walker Evans Shocks. Walker Evans are VERY expensive. They have resivoir style(expensive), and there cheapest is an emulsion style non-resivoir for $175.00 each. What is an emulsion shock? Also, how good are walker Evans? Are they considerably better then the ranchos that they are worth $85.00 more PER shock? (And thats for the non-resivoir emulsion shock.) Remote resivoir shocks are $220.00 and a compressed adjustable style resivoir shock runs $299.00 each.

Anyone familiar with these shocks or elulsion shocks, resivoir...etc i would GREATLY appreciate the feedback.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I ran the remote reserviors on my '04 Rubi (6" Nth + AiROCK) - loved the W-E shocks - for me, worth the price.

IMHO, I'd save your money. I ran them on my TJ and while they do provide an awesome ride, mine leaked like crazy in a short amount of time and the ride quality started to suck. I actually had one freeze up and break on me 70 miles out in the middle of nowhere. Granted, they are rebuildable...

I have come across a good deal on walker Evans shocks and would like to know has they ride? I currently am running bilstein 5100 and am looking for a longer travel shock. Would the WE be an upgrade or downgrade. Anyone have any input for the WE on a JK.

Emulsion shocks are a single tube design use oil and nitrogen without a divider. The oil and gas become mixed as they are used and are considered a light duty shock good for everyday road use or light trail riding. Adding a resevoir puts the nitrogen behind a seperate piston to keep the oil and gas from mixing and gives it more room for oil to keep the shocks cooler. The resevoir shocks are designed for off road racing or high speed running that will heat up a shock.

The ride quality will depend on the valving. They do have specific valving for the JK so an off the shelf shocks should be good. It has a schrader valve to adjust the nitrogen pressure and you can rebuild and revalve the shocks to your custome set up. They are made from aluminum vs steel on the Rancho and use a bearing end instead of a poly bushing for less bind at the mounts.I would compare them more to a Fox, King, Bilstein 9100, or Sway-a-way shock.

They cost more but are also a lifetime shock being able to rebuild should a part wear out or break vs a 9000 shocks that is just a throw away should it leak.
