Walker Evans Street vs. Beadlocks
Ok, I've decided that I want Walker Evans wheels, I was trying to find a wheel that I liked that was less expensive, but realized that these are the wheels I want, and won't be happy with anything else. Now the question is, should I go with the street wheels or the beadlocks? I don't really understand the whole "beadlocks aren't D.O.T. approved" and "beadlocks are for offroad use only". Why aren't they D.O.T. approved? Are they more dangerous than normal wheels? What's different about the AEV beadlocks that they are D.O.T. approved? Right now I'm leaning toward the street wheels, but real beadlocks are not much more...
I have the WE beadlocks and they are by far worth the extra coin! I went through Dave at Northridge. I have had mine since 2007 and have not experienced any issues with them yet. Just bring a torque wrench with you to the trail head and check the beads before a long drive. If you don't wheel that hard, and do mostly highway driving, just a once a month re-torque should be fine. 18lbs is the setting and torque you need. Hope this helps toward you decision.
