Want to eliminate or reduce stearing wheel shimmy.
Have 3.5 in lift running 35 1250 18 and 18x9.5 4.5 backspace wheels.
currently have JKS track bar, no track bar bracket and no drop pitman arm, EMU shocks, OEM control arms with cam bolts. 1st off michigan roads suck, when hitting bumps that only catch one tire it makes the stearing wheel wobble back and forth a few times like its held together with a rubber band, this is not an uncontralable death wobbe. What is the next purchase or mod needed? I am thinking one or two of the following. 1 Fliped drag link and raised track bar mount, High steer. 2 Adjustable lower control arms. 3 ? or do i just need to hold the wheel tighter, hope there is a better solution |
Standard JK steering, comes with every model:thumbsup:

I have the same problem. It's starting to get really annoying. I would also like to know what others are doing to minimize this shimmy.

Read up on bumpsteer. I had rims with 4.5 inches of backspacing and they were not hub centric and had some shimmy after bumps. Put stock rims back on and no shimmy after bumps.
|
I would invest in some adjustable lower control arms with that amount of lift. A lot of things can cause shimmy and tires are probably at the top of list.

same problem, I thought it was the wide tires.

Love the steering on the JK
I have the same thing going on with my JK. I was looking to replace the front LCA's first. I still think after i go up to bigger tires, I will need to replace some of the front suspension components as well. Definitely heavy duty tie rod, drag link, and some hardcore knuckles. Of course, i don't NEED to replace them till they break. That's just not the way I want to do it, Just my two cents.
I have the super flimsy steering feel also, but only after bumps. I think eventually I might just throw down the cash on a PSC setup as well |
For me, I have adjustable LCA's so that's not solving it. Will heavy duty tie-rod and steering linkage help? Mine are still stock. I was also thinking of track bar bracket at axle and flip kit.

bump steer. easy fix.

I hate the loose, shakey steering on the JK. Its my biggest gripe about these Jeeps.
You can upgrade your tie rods and drag links and arms until your heart is content, A LOT of the problem is the crappy steering shaft, steering column and the steering box. |
