Warn Power Plant shuts down engine
Have a '09 Rubi with the 12k Warn Power Plant. I have a the stock battery (Replaced about yr. ago under war) Today I was trying to Winch out a F150 & everytime it got to pulling hard the engine would shut down. I even tried to run the RPM's up but that did not help. The second time it shut off I had to be jump started. Should I be looking at a bigger alternator or a new larger CCA battery? I have read some post on here about the Die Hard 34/78DT is that the one I should be looking at when & if I upgrade the battery. Also would a high output alternator be an option to go along with a better then stocl battery?
Thanks
Thanks
Definitely get a deep cycle battery. It sounds like yours is shot. And yes, 34/78 is the right size. That should take care of your problem. Also, some tuners allow you to raise the idle to help with charging while off road when running low rpm's
Not an answer, just a thought.
Just read 12K Warn PowerPlant owners manual. Says use a minimum 650cca battery.
Is the factory battery 600cca? It seems too close of a cca that it would cause this, assuming your battery is in good condition
I replaced my battery a few months ago with a 800cca.
Hope you get an answer soon.

Look into an Odyssey battery. Mine I can stall the winch before the battery gives out and stalls the Jeep, and mine is only 1200 CCA. They are awesome - dual batteries not needed. (Warn 9000i winch.)
What's the size/model of the Odyssey? Does it fit in the factory spot or are mods needed?
All suggestions are good so far. I would also check the resistance of the wiring you have going to the winch. With something pulling that kind of juice you really need to ensure you have the right size guage wiring for it. If you can touch the wires after they have been under heavy load and they are warm to the touch they are too small. You are looking at probably 6 or 7 feet of wire going to the battery for something like a winch. That is a long run for something like a 12k powerplant.
A 12k powerplant is a pretty big winch setup for a jeep. As others have mentioned a dual battery or sealed cell battery at least is something you should consider. Upgraded HO alternator and adjustable regulator are probably something you would want as well. It would probably be easier and cheaper to just sell your powerplant and purchase a 9.5cti and a separate onboard air system and leave your battery and charging system stock.
Either way good luck fighting the gremlin

I'd get one that will just drop in. They are incredibly powerful for their size.
