Default Warn winch or others (Chinese made)

This question came up in another post and I was thinking this might be a good question to ask.

How do you feel about a Warn winch, are they better than the Chinese made alternatives? Worth the extra money? How do you feel about buying American made products? I found a M8000 for $592.71 at the Warn factory outlet with free shipping. A Chinese alternative cost about $289.00.

It pretty much boils down to if you are going to be wheeling or only trying to look like you are...you really do get what you pay for when it comes to winches ...

I just went through this...
I was looking at the SmittyBuilt. I saw a winch for sale on this forum and I finally got around to checking CraigsList.

Bam! A used Warn M8000 for $300!!

Made in the USA !

The winch looks brand new.

Keep looking.......

I prefer to spend on the high side for a winch only because I like the piece of mind. I don't use a winch very often but when I need to I want to know its going to work. That being said I got a brand new Warn winch that didn't work out of the box. I called Warn and they took care of everything, scheduled UPS to pick it up at my house and less then a week later they sent me a brand new winch. Thats the only problem I have had with Warn in the past 8 years, I am really pleased with Warn, their products and customer support!

I can't speak for other companies; but, I have had my Warn M8000 for 20 years and it still works. It looks rough but I know I can depend on it.

Default Great info

Great thanks, lots of good info. I believe the Warn VR series is made from Chinese sourced parts and assembled in the US. They are trying to compete in price. I think that a great idea to see how long has people been using a brand of winch with out any problems.

Great luck with my Chinese made runva winch.

A lot of tow truck guys around here use their winches with no problems.

They have also won some international winch competitions.

Cheap, looks good and works every time for me. Only down fall is they do not offer a completely water proof Solonoid box to operate underwater
