WARN XD9000 , Synthetic Line conversion.
Hello everyone!
I found a decent deal on a warn winch, $300 locally. it needs a little love but the owner says it works perfectly.
is it worth it to buy a used winch over a cheaper new one, like a VR 8000-s $500 ?
I would like to convert it to synthetic line but I hear the drum gets too hot
ANY info appreciated as I don't know very much about winches

I don't know about the $200 difference, it depends on model, year, condition. I think it is good to stay in the Warn family of winches. I'm sure you would be okay with synthetic line, most pulls with a winch are momentary, not long pulls that would heat up the winch enough to melt the line. I got my old Warn winch for free and restored it, Warn make parts for every winch they ever made so, I spent about 100 bucks and have a new winch.
I purchased a warn winch a while back but purchased the spydura rope with it.
Have a steel rope for back up. But when you purchase the synthetic line it has a shroud over the length of rope that touches the drum. To protect it.
Synthetic is lighter, safer, and that's about all you can ask.
