Default WARN XD9000 , Synthetic Line conversion.

Hello everyone!

I found a decent deal on a warn winch, $300 locally. it needs a little love but the owner says it works perfectly.

is it worth it to buy a used winch over a cheaper new one, like a VR 8000-s $500 ?

I would like to convert it to synthetic line but I hear the drum gets too hot

ANY info appreciated as I don't know very much about winches

I don't know about the $200 difference, it depends on model, year, condition. I think it is good to stay in the Warn family of winches. I'm sure you would be okay with synthetic line, most pulls with a winch are momentary, not long pulls that would heat up the winch enough to melt the line. I got my old Warn winch for free and restored it, Warn make parts for every winch they ever made so, I spent about 100 bucks and have a new winch.

The XD9000 are a work horse.

I've had synthetic rope (Technora) on mine for 5yrs with a lot of pulls and have never had an issue with it.

I would take the XD. They are badass. I had an XD8000i that I paid $400 for, used. I myself had it for 10 years. Never let me down. Go with the XD

Default Warn spydura rope

I purchased a warn winch a while back but purchased the spydura rope with it.

Have a steel rope for back up. But when you purchase the synthetic line it has a shroud over the length of rope that touches the drum. To protect it.

Synthetic is lighter, safer, and that's about all you can ask.

Synthetic is the way to go for many reasons. Just don't buy the cheap crap. There is a reason it is much less expensive.
