Default Which weighs more?

This might be a stupid question, but, which one weighs more?

- Steelies (Cragar Soft 8)
- Chrome Alloy (Pro Comp 8179)

Both wheels in a 16x8.

When you start adding weight of tires plus weight of rims, it begins to make a difference. Especially if you have the Dana 30 in the front like I do. Then again, maybe I am just looking for an excuse to get the 8179's.

I think this is a trick question. Was it on the GMATS?

Uhmm....after tires and wheels....really? Check the stats.

Alloy will be lighter then the steel! (edited after research!)

Steelies are typically heavier....alloy rims are typically lighter.

Hmmm..... The aluminium is alot thicker than the steel wheel. So it's possible the alloy could be heavier. Try to find the shipping lbs. of each. Better check the tires too.

Cragars are pretty heavy, based on the stock JK wheels vs. steelies, the steelies are much heavier. I am not sure about the aftermarket wheels you are looking at, but alloys are traditionally much lighter than steel. It is back-breaking trying to lift a 35" 10 ply tire on steel rims.

The Soft 8's will be noticeably heavier.

I had 37" Krawlers on Allied steel beadlocks on my TJ. It was all I could do to get the spare on the tire carrier...

The 8179's dont come in chrome, they are black powder coat with a machined outer rim.
Did you mean to compare a different wheel?

BTW, the 16x8 Pro Comp 8179 wheels weigh 22lbs via their website and the Cragars have a shipping weight of 37lbs so they are probably around 35lbs each.

I have the Pro Comp 8179 wheels in 17x9 and they weigh 26lbs.
Im very happy with them and their black powder coat finish has held up great for he abuse Ive put them through off road and on the salty roads here.

Pro Comp 8179 = 35lbs
Cragar Soft 8 = 40lbs

google Cragar Soft 8 + weight

The plus sign tells the query what you are looking for, just scan the list and you find the shipping weights.
