While I think your weight saving efforts are applaudable, the truth is that at speeds over 60 mph more than 80% of the power used is dealing with aero drag. If you add a thousand pounds to your JK you would still be less than 25% of your power dealing with weight and tires rotational mass at highway speeds. The biggest benefits would be on grades where half your power is used to deal with the incline drag on as little as a 3 degree grade.

So yes wait savings will help a bit but you are still driving a vehicle that has the aerodynamics of a barn. I wouldn't compromise the quality of any component for weight savings as in the end it's not a big enough of a factor to make that much difference. Slowing down 5mph will gain you more efficiency than any weight saving endeavor.

Thanks to everyone for the input.

I understand the unavoidable issues with aerodynamics. My concern was more with sluggish movement on the street or trail (as well as wear on the suspension) related to half a ton of added weight. It would suck to add a 2.5-3" lift just to instantly loose an inch of that in bumper weight. I guess I could add spacers to make up for it, but that helps clearance not travel.

Does anyone know offhand the approx added weight of a stubby front bumper and a minimal rear bumper with tire carrier?

I hit a big buck in OK last yr. I was glad for my heavy duty Shrockworks front bumper. No damage to anything other than the deer. Get a bumper that will protect you and your jeep.

Default x2 above me

Just look for a bumper that will give you protection. The way you need it, if you want to improve street performance, look at a supercharger or towards regearing.

I will re-gear to 4.88 for sure when I move up to 35's.

As far as bumpers go I am leaning toward the LOD signature series shorty front and rear. I like the look and features. A bit pricey though.

I took the back seat out of my 2 door and got extra 15 miles to the tank (i figure "tank" to be when the light comes on-Its the only constant in testing your gas milage)
