I'm getting ready to mig weld the weld nut onto my frame. Is remove the negative cable on the battery is enough to made it safe to weld and not damaged the ECU?

Either way u can weld on a vehicle, but I strongly recommend removing the negative battery cable. Wouldent wanna chance frying an ECM!

As little as time it takes to remove the negative cable it's not worth risking. When I had my gussets welded I removed my negative. The mechanics at work, when they weld on any equipment they always remove the negative cable. I for sure would remove it.

Remove the negative if you don't bad things can happen. Even though we put a ground on the Jeep from the welder. Stray voltage can find its way back to your negative. It's kinda like water it will follow the path of least resistance and flow that way but some might flow down a smaller path.

Default Ground where you weld!

I've seen a lot of expensive industrial instruments ruined because welders will tie their ground lead to just any convenient location.

Be sure to ground adjacent to where you are welding. This will minimize the chances of stray current frying a device or worse, burning up a wire harness.
