Default what 40" tires to get??

ok, finally thinking it's time to go 40's. I currently have 37" mtr's and love them. I have seen plenty of these in 40's. what else is good out there I should also look into before just simply buying MTR's? I will most likely run them dd year round in a state with 4 true seasons. When I am offroad I primarily look for insane rock crawling opportunities. So I desire good ride characteristics, low to no balancing issues and good fitment for my 17x8.5 AEV beadlocks. If you believe a different size beadlock is better then let me know that too because I could always sell off my entire set of tires and wheels and buy new beadlocks too.

A guy I work with is running IROCKs on his TJ. It's pretty much a DD and rides pretty good, and they are 40x15.50s

Why not get toyos? they seem to be the go to tire on here for 40's and they wear really well. I know you have a PR44 up front so to keep the weight down maybe running the MTR's again wouldn't hurt they're a good tire as I'm sure you now but they do have that added bonus of being really light. Or are you moving up to a D60 up front?

Not sure if a tire shop will mount a 15.50 on a 8.5 rim.

why I said I am willing to sell my Pintler's if need be. I am looking for an "Offroad only" setup not a DD combo. I'll keep my 37 mtr's for DD.

If that's the case, then you may want to take a look at the BFG Krawler. I'm running the 39's and although I would not recommend them for a DD, they stick like glue to rocks. I've not had them long enough to talk about wear and how long they might last, but since they are a "soft" tire and rated C, I suspect they will wear faster than Toyos and other tires.

They are 39x13.5x17 and yes I kept the AEV beadlocks - they seem to run just fine together and mounting them was easy. True height is 38.5 mounted.

I would love to see what your Jeep could do with some Maxxas Creepy Crawlers in the 40x13.50x17 variety
