I installed an AEM CAI at the same time I did a Magnaflow cat-back and Superchips programmer - better throttle response and a slight gain in MPG; then I went with BFG 35's and away went the MPG gain! but I did not have to re-gear so I figure it's a good trade off.

Bingo. A cai on a jeep is begging for hydrolock.

I love My Mopar cai... Got at the dealer with my mopar buck! I just know not to go crossing rivers! Little more horse and gas milage too. I like it for the sound the motor wakes up a bit not loud but just right... Some make a whistle but I'm not a fan. No whistle from mine 25 minute install if you don't drop a screw like I did!!

I'm more of the opinion that driving in water is begging for hydrolock.

Open the hood after driving in the rain. You'll see splash marks on the underside of the hood from where the belts throw water straight at the air intake.

Enough to hydro-lock? No idea. Just a design issue to be aware of...

I ran the K&N kit for 25k miles. No noticeable gains in HP or MPG over long time use averages, just a MUCH better throttle response, which IMO is better than either gains. If you're set on a kit make sure it has a heat shield or sealed system to prevent the rain throwing of the belt as mentioned above. I'm running a snorkel and K&N drop in, lost a little throttle response but still way better over stock. If you encounter a lot of mud or water crossing off-roading just skip the CAI and get a snorkel w/upgraded drop in filter.
