I have been reading for days on here. My eyes are all jacked up haha! I have a 2011 JKU with the 3.73 gears. It has a 6 speed. Most of my driving is local in town always under 60mph. Some hills. I could not find what would be needed to run the 35s. I have a lift and spacers. I am more concerned about gearing and axle wear. It seems like it is 50/50. Some people dont mind and others say re gear. From what I understand re gear is 1k-2k installed. Where do you buy the gears? I have the 32 BFG MT on it now. I get 17-19 normal driving. on hills I usually downshift. I have an air raid CAI for a little more power. I dont drive the Jeep everyday and NEVER NEVER get into heavy offorad only trail riding. with a 6-speed, you will be just fine running 35's with 3.73 gears. will you see some power loss? of course but, will it be bad enough to matter? no.

Superchips Flashpaq will make up your lost power... I run the the performance 91 tune on mine, and it drives almost like stock, even after 35's.

 

What about an auto with 3.73s on a jku?

 

I'm just guessing, and I may be way off, but i would think that with an auto you would notice more power loss. Anybody back that up? Or shoot holes in it?

 

he's got a 6-speed and so a flashpaq isn't really necessary.

on an auto, you really need to make sure to recalibrate your speedo as it controls your shift points and will make a difference. running a superchips will make things a lot better as canondale said above. i ran this exact setup for about a year and only on 87 and thought it was fine.

You'll be fine with 3.73 just driving around town. If you do any wheeling, that's where you'll see some problems. With 3.73 gears and 35's you won't be able to simply crawl over obstacles or up hills. You'll find yourself having to keep your RPM's way up to get over things. So you may have to start flooring it to get over a boulder or up a hill to keep from stalling. When I went to 4.88 gears I was amazed at the ability of the jeep to simply crawl over obstacles with a minimal amount of skinny pedal. With 3.73 gears, I was really getting frustrated how much it would stall on the trail. I got to a point where I was happier riding in someone else's jeep than taking my own. If you don't wheel, then it may not be a problem for you.

To the OP, gears won't be "necessary" but you may feel like you want to get them done after you drive around with the 35s for a bit.
