Default What could thump when hitting a pothole?

With what I have done to my JK ( see sig) basically OME kit, what could cause a thumping noise upon hitting a large pothole or such an obstacle? Could it be the normal shock noise? Any input would be appreciated.

What do you consider a large pot hole?

What speed are you traveling?

Did you install longer shocks or shock relocation (extenders) braskets?

The door latch mechanism has been known to cause a thump like sound over bumps. Ajusting the striker plate seems to remedy the issue.
Where does the sound seem to come from?

I second this....bumpstops are most likely the culprit

It comes from the back of the vehicle. It sounds like the jack is loose ( it is not) or the rear seat isn't latched ( it is)

The Bump stops are way away even at full flex so i don't think it is that. It could be the door latch , I will look at that

I would second this. Go over a bump that makes the noise and then turn around and go over the bump again but this time open your door a couple of inches if you don't here the sound then its the latch if you do hear it then its something else, you can try this with all the doors with the help of a friend. I had to adjust all four of my doors for the thud sound and now its perfect.

Assuming you have the spare on a bumper mounted carrier, could be coming from that.
