I get that one can be used for the top and one for the bottom, but what are the pros cons? How does the one on the top mount? Anyone have it?

Good question, I know the bumpstops are there to prevent over compression of your springs..
My question is how bigger should should they be compared to the lift being used?

Does a 3" use a 3" bumpstop? What about a 4"?

Do you have to change top and bottom?

They are just different types of bumpstops, with a 2.5 lift you only need one of them, preferably the lower mount as it requires less effort to install. The upper requires alot of muscle to get out and back in.

With the front axle the lower requires drilling, so they recommend using the upper with a 2.5 lift.

If you have a 4+ lift then you will want both upper and lower, as the distance between the bumpstops will be even greater than with a 2.5 lift.

the 2nd pic, the one that is rectangular and bolts to the axle, is what you will want for just a 2.5"-3" lift. the 1st pic is what you would use in addition to the axle mounted extension for a 4"+ lift. the teraflex 4" flex arm and long arm kit use both.

typically, yes or there abouts anyway.

up front, it's really a matter of clearance. if you're running just a 2"-2.5" lift, you can extend your bump stop from the existing bump stop mount with little to no rubbing of the coil at a full droop. anything more than that and it will make contact. 3" and above, it's better to mount the bump stops on top of the axle spring perch as they will offer total clearance. on some kits like the TF 4", you will need to install both upper and lower.

in the rear, all you really need is to mount the bump stops on the axle mounts. if you get real tall, you can add extensions from the top as well like TF does.

BY the same theory, can I just use the top mounted bump stops instead of the axle mounted stops? I bought my lift from a buddy and have no lower bumpstops for the rear, is that really a big deal if I make sure not to flex the springs too much?

Yes, you can, but it is MUCH easier to install the lowers than the uppers. The uppers require alot of muscle to take out and to put back in.

what he said. but, if you have just the uppers only, take a dremel and make a notch about 1/2" long on lip that gets plugged into the mount. this will help to get it in and out in the future.
