what do i need next to off road?
This is my nearly stock Sahara at Tellico (on #6). I think #6 was consistently the most difficult without getting into the trails that you need a built up rig for. #4 is way harder than the trail map shows, but still doable. I also did 3 & 5 with out any problem. #1 is pretty much doable in a camry full of groceries.
My rig has a 1.5" BB and 33"s in this pic. I since put a Warn bumper and 9K winch on and lost 1" of lift and still did all the same trails. This is a SAHARA ,not a Rubi. Lockers would have made zero difference. I busted my front diff cover once and since put on the ARB covers, but other than that, the Jeep faired just fine. I manually disco'd my SB end links in 2 minutes and that makes all the difference.

Sometimes even a winch won't save you if you're wheeling alone. Take Moab for example--there's nothing to attach a winch cable to!
The picture doesn't show it very well, but that rock face is practically vertical. I could hardly walk up it. If he had wheeled alone that day he would probably still be there.

I wish I knew, but we got there right as they started winching out the Cherokee. I've seen videos of stock Hummers doing it (the obstacle is called "Escalator" if you want to look it up on YouTube), so I wouldn't doubt that the FJ did it too. FJs are surprisingly good in Moab--IFS isn't really a burden there, and dare I say it, IFS might have an advantage in some situations. It helps make a rig less tipsy.
hi guys.this is my first jeep, so i'm new to what i need to off road. i don't wanna go rock crawling or any hard core climbing..in ski terms i want to find Blue square trails..i have a wrangler X with the S package..larger P255/75R17 OWL On-/Off-Road wrangler tires on 17 inch x7.5 inch rims..i added some fogs lights and bumper with d rings..
Can i do medium runs with the above stock jeep? without bigger tires and lift kit?
how much larger tires can i put on without lifting?
increase suspension? how much? is a budget boost worth the money? or is it only eye candy?
i don't wanna spend a fortune..
thanks for the advice..
