Default What the heck does a stinger do?

Big time beginner here. My 08 JK 4 door is my first jeep. I am going to put a stubby bumper on and am wondering what the heck a stinger is for? Any one have a pic of one in action?

Firstly, welcome to the madness!

the stinger is there to keep the rig from going end over end while on a steep descent. do a search, there are some pics on here of them in action. here is a shot of mine

thats the Rugged Ridge Modular bumper with the Stinger hoop and skid plate. i dont have any shots of the stinger at work though

Default Stinger!

Okthe stinger is designed to keep you from rolling over on your lid when goin down a steep decline. so if your going down hill and it's to steep and you start to go a$$ over tea ketal it is designed to stop you. that and they just look bad a$$.

ive also found that if i get too close to someone in traffic, the driver gets nervous.... i guess it looks a bit intimidating?

I've always known them to protect the engine/radiator if you do roll. Driving out a rolled Jeep is always much easier than having to tow it. Also cheaper for the rebuild.

The most used point for them is when you roll over, the hood doesnt get smashed. This is assuming the stringer is tall enough to protect the hood.
