Default What long travel shocks?

First off here is what makes me want to go this route. After numerous tries getting a lift i want shipped to Hawaii it ain't happening and i give up on this non sense. SOOOOOOO I'm thinking just mimick this guys set up but want to know the risks and benefits along with How big i can go before i get close to doing damage. I currently have teraflex 2.5" Springs on my 4door realy i got a little under an inch sooo barely any lift. if any really. I also have braided brake lines allready. So whats the most travel i can go with on my jku. Looking to have all of the flex none of the lift.

Disconnect your swaybar and shocks jack up the jeep until the coil becomes totally unseated. Once you do this measure between your upper and lower shock mounts to get your extended shock length. Once you have that you can determine how long a shock you can run.

this x2. You could also retain your coils and try to go even longer, but you lose the factor of the coil pushing your tire down. Some people say its also bad for a coil, but personally i never had a problem nor did anyone i ran with. If you retain it and go even longer you will need to be careful on the collapsed length though and make sure you can fit the shock without moving mounts or bottoming out the shock.

I am also in the process of trying to get Metal Cloak 2.5" Springs shipped out to me. It's such a pin out here in hawaii.

there 2.5s are slightly shorter than there 3.5, but if your going that route id do as dirt said and measure. It will be the easiest way.

Any way i also ordered Bilstiens set that's for a 3.5-5" Kit figured with the longest springs in the industry lets see what it takes to make them drop lol. Thanks for the help. Will post pics if i can get it to go full drop. THANKS

You didnt do what either of us said...shocks shouldnt go by lift height, your essentially gambling unless you know the extended length of them? Also mcs 2.5s I dont believe are "the longest in the industry" There are longer front and rear coils than mc.

I am sure someone here has measured the actual height of the 2.5" coil and once you know that it will be easy to figure out what shock length to run. Picking by lift height 3.5-5" is not how to choose shocks if you are looking for the most travel. You pick by the actual compressed and extended length which you can easily find on the bilstien web site.

The mc 2.5 front is ~20.5 and the rear is about 17-7/8

Front is correct. Total travel of front coils is 12.75" for the 2.5". I don't know the rear though.
