The axle C's (where the ball joints are mounted--it is shaped like the letter C) are not very strong. Gussets welded on, especially on the top half, can prevent them from bending with the stress of larger tires. This applies to D44 and D30 axles.

More C-gussets. Got mine at Quadratec. Cheap insurance.
