Default what position should pitman arm be in?

i know this is a weird question but i have re-centered my steering wheel about 4-5 times and it can't be in the same position as when i purchased the jeep new.
just wondering what position everone's is in with the wheels in the straight position?
i ask cause im going to install my FT pitman arm today and wanted to return it to the normal position, and i really don't know what problems if any would result after time .......

I believe the teeth on the pitman arm has a key and can only be put on one way. You will most likely have to recenter you wheel again.

Crap, Crap, Crap...... I cant for the life of me get the damn pitman arm off.
I PB blasted the crap out of it, i beat the shit out of it and i also cursed at it but it
Only moved a lil ( i think ). Any ideas? I do have the pitman arm puller like the one in the 4" RC wrire-up and use it till it squeels like a stuck pig but im afraid somthings gonna break. Should i heat up the pitman arm?
Anyway, the jk's sitting in the garage soaking in pb blaster till i try again tomorrow..

I had to heat the pitman arm to get it to break loose. I left the puller on and under tension while heating the outside of the pitman arm. I would heat it a little and tighten the puller then keep this up over and over until it broke loose. I did this in the morning while everything was still cool, about 40 degrees, to get the most out of heating the pitman arm.

You gotta use a puller, do as Robar suggested and you should have no probs getting it off. I used a puller and hammer to get my CJ's off, tighten bang, tighten bang, although a little heat can make a big difference. Heat was always my last resort and everytime I told myself why the hell didn't you do that first. Hardheaded I guess.

Also try to be prepared when heating for the bang when it pops loose, in other words , take a crap before doing it.

like they say use a puller and a little heat if you must but adjust your steering wheel at the drag link not the pitman arm

finally got it off guys and man it was a bitch, it was my first time so now i know i finally resorted to the tighten-whack it-tighten-whack it.........+PB blaster and it came off and all ican say is what a noticable difference right off the bat. i took it for a test drive for about 2 miles and the tugging left n right is all gone its no longer loose or unstable and can say it is about 95% back to stock feel and thats cause my tie-rod is bent and am awaiting my new RK one with moog ends, then when thats installed im taking it in for an alignment and tire balancing and im done....next thing is to figure out which SS reloc. bracket to use with my BDS trac bar, RK drag link and my RK tie rod...
thanx for the help
