Default What is the risk?

What kind of power loss will I be looking @ if I do not regear the current 3.73 ratio, add 35s, and just recalibrate the speedo?

Is there anything else I should be worried about w/ the auto tranny? Would 33s be a better fit in this scenario?

You'll be dogging. Probably won't be an issue in Texas. I had 3.73 gearing with 33's on my TJ and it was underpowered. It was a pooper on the mountain roads when I had moved to Colorado.

I agree, my 3.73s were not enough with 33's. 35's will need a little more gearing even on the flats in my opinion.

I regeared to 5.13s after I got 35s. Now 6th has a reason for being...i.e. I don't have to down shift to get up the average texas highway hill.

What does the regear to 5.13 run ~ $ wise?

I'm running 35's with the 3.73's. Honestly, it isn't that bad, but I also have the auto. OD barely exists now, but the ride is much smoother and no DW issues (yet). Had the dealer re-flash for 28 psi for the TPMS and all is well.

I would definitly regear if I was to do any serious off-roading. I mainly stick to BLM/Forest Service roads.

Regearing runs about $750/axle or so...figure around $1500 for budgeting...and then the Gee, while the diffs are open, maybe I should get lockers...?

Going from 33's to 35's is not a giant jump, and the JK's are not TJ's...the TJ's were more dogs than the JK's.

If you were cruising at 3,000 rpm with 33's, you're only going to drop to ~2,830 rpm on 35's, less than 200 rpm difference, about 170 rpm.

Is that worth ~ $1,500 to you?

It is to some people....so, if you're one of them...enjoy your 'lil 33's, or your new gears and 35's.

If not, just enjoy your 35's.

(No wrong answer....I recommend driving what you have now at 3,000 rpm...and then dropping 170 rpm to simulate the NEW DRIVE with 35's.)

Then pick your choice.

I am not sure what most of you guys have owned or driven in the past but I am MARGINALLY happy with the performance of 4.88s, 35's and the AUTO. I don't see how you guys can drive these things with anything less than the 4.88s... 3.73s must be absolutely painful.

Now, I have owned many performance cars in the past and I never expected the JK to be a hot rod but man am I glad I regeared. Now it feels about like my stock TJ did and that I can live with.
