I'm in the process of making my own, I will probably finish them in the next few days. I bought a 20' stick of 1.5" square tubing 1/8" thick. I also made some gussets to strengthen up the brackets on the Rubicon sliders to help them from folding(no pics of this yet) I also have poisonspyder rocker skins so if my rails fold it shouldn't do too much damage to the body...I hope. I going this route for now cuz I spent a ton of $$$ this past month on evo rockstars, evo corner armor, New round tail lights, rk springs, New bilstein shocks and only.spent $36 for the square tubing and I cut and welded it myself. If my sliders fail miserably then I will either make some frame mounted ones or just get the Evo sliders

ACE Rails have been awesome for myself and my family. Needed something for the family to use to get into the jeep but also wanted something for the occasional offroading. The gap you talk about is not that bad without rubi rails. Twin 5 year olds and a 2 year old and haven't had a problem with them yet. Can't beat the price and they were simple to install (beside the grinding of the washer). Great warranty also.

the gap is GOOD as I mentioned in the second post. I've seen ace rails damage the body when run in conjunction with Rubi rails. By eliminating the gap, you remove the ability of the sliders to bend a bit when on rocks so all that left if pressure on the rubi rails and body.

The ace rails are great choice from a price to strength perspective. Just be careful if you run them with Rubi rails and tend to hit rocky terrain while off-road.

I still say that the OP should look at LOD or talk to Evo about their newer design that has the rail sit out a bit more so they can be used as a step. The LOD's are bolt on and the Evo's are weld on. But the most important feature of both is that they are 100% frame mounted.

I've not heard of the ACE + Rubi rails issue. You'd have to come down pretty damn hard to do that. Just sliding over a rock at a controlled speed works fine and they've held up with no issues. And the step works great for my family. Install was a breeze. Price / value for these is unbeatable.

However, if my budget allowed for it, yeah, I'd strongly consider Hanson, LoD, or Poison Spider's options.

OR-Fab's rock sliders are very stout. The heavy duty bars are manufactured from .120 wall steel tubing. They offer great trail protection and ground clearance while giving you that side step for the misses....

I second the brawler rockers, i picked up a set from their garage page for $400. The body armor attaches to the body. The "step" bolts onto the body armor (an area highly dented from getting in with steel toes) and to the factory body mounts on the side of the frame rails for a "boat side" effect. You can put a hi lift in any of the hole cut outs and if you use a bestop trail cover, the holes double as strapping points for the cover.

The real problems is there are so many different ones out there, weighing budget vs. function vs. style
