Default What size ARB tree trunk protector?

Is it worth getting the 16' for an extra 10 bucks? Or should I save my money and get the 10'?

I like the 10 ft, fits most trees easily. Easy to store. A 16' and longer will just make that much more slack you need to pick up.

Only huge tree would actually need a 16 foot strap. You will might up double wrapping it on most trees. I would go for the shorter strap.

Sounds like its probably not needed to have the extra feet. Pretty much what I was thinking.

Is ok to hook the tree saver directly to the winch line? I'm new to winching and just want to make sure I have the proper stuff to use my winch. Thanks.

Yup, a tree saver is the only kind of strap you want to use with winching, never a snatch strap because they are made to stretch and bounce like a rubber band. Those are for when your pulling someone out by driving the Jeep, not winching. The tree saver is designed not to stretch and its there to save the tree as well as give you a good anchor point, you never want to go around a tree and hook around to the cable itself, its bad for the hook, your winch line, and the tree. I actually use my tree saver the most often. It can come in handy if you're helping someone who doesn't have any recovery hooks or good attachment points. Had to use mine the other day to pull my sisters grand Am out of a ditch, uni body, no tow hook, just the muffler and a sway bar hanging out back, luckly my tree saver was just barely able to loop through a chunk of the uni body/bumper sort of thing and was able to pull her out no prob. A snatch strap would have worked, but it would have been dangerous to use with a winch and would have left me trying to yank her our instead of just pulling it out nice and easy with the winch, get a tree saver or two,a snatch block, some gloves, and a floor mat or towel to throw over the line just in case it snaps, and be aware of people around you when winching. warn has a great quick access safety manual that came with my winch, I'm sure you could download it from there Web site, i keep mine packed with my gear at All times

You can always make a long strap shorter.
The extra few feet may make the difference between being able to use a preferred anchor, or not, and that may make the difference between getting out, or not.

The ARB "tree saver" should really be thought of more like an "anchor strap". The thing you anchor to might be a tree, or it could be a rock, another vehicle, an elephant, etc.

Ditto to the previous post about never using a stretchy strap in winch rigging due to the kinetic energy hazard.

I got generic town straps in 10 20 n 30 feet. The 10 fits around most trees ive used but for 1 bucks id get the 16 i wouldn't wanna use the winch around the tree back onto it self at all. Not sure how the tree saver works but with then longer tow strap (my 20) it allows me to use that and save 10 feet of winch line depending on the scenario
