What size spare?
I have (4) 35x12.5x17 tires, but need a cheap spare to go with them.
If I use a narrower spare tire, what size should I look for?
I think its going to be 265/70/R17, but I'm not sure.
I've utilized various calculators on tire sites, but I want some advice from a real person.

Will I need one?
Off the subject: Whaaaasup?!
Taking off the rubber bumpstops on the rear should let you fit a worn 35 back there on a stock rim. Maybe someone else on here who's done that'll chime in. I know I've seen somebody on here running one like that. Doing good man, you got your 35's mounted yet? Helluva deal on those!
From what I've heard, not only will you need an adapter, you may need to think about getting a beefier tire carrier for the extra weight of the 35". But if your backspacing is good on the wheel, then you might be able to get by without an adapter.
Get a skinny tire of the same diameter. Your only real concern for the spare is the damage you do to your gears when one wheel is turning faster than another. There was an thread on this recently and some data to support it.
Width, however will make no difference, so if you go with a narrow tire of 35" size, you will be good to go and may need to do nothing to your spare location. Oh...yeah....used works fine (as long as not too far out of the size limits)

No, still not mounted. I'm holding out for as long as I can stand it, or at least until I get the spare tire situation ironed out.

I'm also hoping if it's narrower, it will fit on the stock rim on the stock tire carrier.

Unless you are on a very tight budget, I'd recommend just getting a 5th tire/wheel combo that is the same as the other 4. It is a bit more investment up front, but you can use your spare in your tire rotations and get more life out of the whole set. Plus it will look a lot better!
