I have a smittbilt compressor that I picked up for about $70. It has a pressure guage and will air my 32" rubi tires from 15 psi to 37 psi in 12 to 15 mins start to finish. Its not as fast a a high end compressor but then again this unit costs a fraction of the high end units.

I posted this in a couple of spots to seek opinions, what other portable air compressors do you recommended ??

There's alot of choices but other than price its hard to compare one from another - I'm looking for one that inflates 35s quickly and includes fittings for air mattress, etc

Smittybilt Max volume 50....$70
Masterflow M45....$80
Smittybilt Dually twin cylinder....$170
Viair 300P....$200
Viair 400C....$250
Viair 400P....$280
Viair 450C....$280
Viair 440P....$325
Viair 450PC...$350

Cheers

I bought one of these at walmart and put a 6 foot hose between the gun and the clip on chuck. I got the hose and fittings from MSC, but Im sure most hardware stores have them. Works like a champ

My 30 buck walmart compressor has a clip-on chuck and a guage, works great and is about 14 years old!

I use one similar to this from Powertank. It works well with my York compressor.

im not jeff, but robertjk you do not want a dip tube tank for this type of setup. with the dip tube installed all you will get is liquid co2 coming out of the tank. ok for fire supression, not so good fer fillin' tires.

I am running the 400C onboard kit and have added an assortment of fittings to the toolbag.

Really right now I carry an air tank and an el cheapo air compressor to fill it up if I use it.

Looking toward a decent fixed onboard air system

CO2 is the way to go. all it takes is to go on a trailride with someone who has it. Watch how they air up in 1/10 the time it takes most of the compressor guys, even the high-dollar models.

Note that you need to stop filling to get an accurate pressure reading from an in-line gauge, as the pressure in the hose when filling is much higher than that in the tire. I have an inflator like the one at the gas station with a built in gauge that reads when you let up on the trigger. I like the idea of a long hose and clip-on connector to save the knees, but with CO2, you don't have to squat for too long.
