What Winch Is Recommneded
I also wanted the best so I went with Warn and IMO they have the best customer service. I had to do a repair to my winch because of shipping damage and they were more than helpful! IMO top notch! If you want a combined winch/compressor then they offer the Powerplant. If you don't want the compressor then go with the 9.5ti. That is what I have.
Everyone will probably recommend what they have as I just did.

There is no such thing as "The Best Winch".
They all have advantages and disadvantages which may or may not work for you and your specific terrain/budget/situation, etc.
For example:
some are fast with no load, so they take up slack quickly...but, might slow down to a crawl with a load on.
Some are fast with a load, but so so with no load.
Some are fast, but less reliable.
Some are powerfull but slow.
Some are more water resistant than others.
Some are great for occaisional use, but will fail under heavy use.
Some will work with the engine running, but not work with the engine off.
Some use less battery draw, but overheat more easily.
Some have shorter lines to increase drum related response, some have longer lines to allow reach into slick swampy areas and still retain secure footing.
And so forth.
What makes a winch best FOR YOU, is to decide what parameters are important to you, prioritize them, and get a winch that combines the aspects of concern in the manner you require them.
So - if you need the fastest with or with out load, with the longest, strongest line, most reliable, most powerful winch on the market, you would have to buy several winches....as NONE of them meet ALL of those absolute criteria.
Add to the above the synthetic line advantages (Everything but $), and its a dizzying set of choices.
So - you need to set a budget, if cost is no object, then you can expand your choices proportionally, etc...if cost IS an object, then you have to weigh the other options in light of their associated costs, etc.

I went with a Warn 9.5xp, as I NEED the power, performance, and reliability, and I coupled it with 125' of synthetic line....and its been in constant use, because I wheel with a bunch of knuckle heads...I off road for work, and that's my work rig....and we tend to spend a lot of time in the Pine Barrens, a slimey, muddy acidic bog water environment.
I do not have it on the new JK...its still on my other wheeling rig, ever since the 9.5xp came out....with never a hiccup.
Its not the perfect winch for everyone, but is is for me.
