Default What would be too cool for Auto tranny temp?

Howdy,

I recently put a B&M tranny cooler on my '09 Sahara Unlimited 4dr. Since I live in South Texas I am sure it will help, and as I just installed my Aeroforce today, tomorrow will be a good indicator of what temps I am running in the Texas heat in Houston traffic.

What I don't know is when the temps get down into the low 30s, how will the cooler affect the tranny? What should I look for for too? cold of tranny temperatures?

Thanks

From what I have read, your tranny likes to be cool. Unlike the engine, which needs to bin a certain temp range, cooler temps will help the fluid and tranny last longer.

Would you post a pic of the aeroforce install? thanks

Heat is the worst enemy of an automatic transmission. The cooler, the better.

That is very true.
However, the computer looks for it to reach 82F before the TC will start to lock up. If it takes too long for the tranny to reach a few preprogrammed levels, based on starting temp, ambient temp, and a few other things, it will throw a code.
I believe no one who has installed an additional cooler has had any problems with it staying too cool. The normal operation of the system still takes care of routing fluid through the OEM cooler, with which the additional cooler is in series. .

When I HAD my Jeep, my converter locked up 20 seconds after pullin outta the driveway. Maybe I'll get it back one day.

I'd be interested to hear from those who have the temp gauges and cooler installed,

How long does it take after starting up for the temp to reach 82 F?

I would think, it would be close to this before start up during the summer (in most parts of the country).

As you are going along, the rpm's will drop, and the engine sounds as if it is slowing down.
The AeroForce gauge has a display for Torque Converter Clutch Slip. You can watch it there.

My tranny shop told me there is no such thing as "too cool" here in Texas. I don't have my cooler on yet but it's coming....

Converter lockup is VERY similar to another gear change. It occurs either after the trans reaches 4th or 3rd if you have OD turned off. Just feel and listen for another "gear change" after 4th. You can't miss it.
