Default Whats a good winch?

I have a Warn Bumper on my 07 Wrangler but i'm not sure what winch i want. What about the 9000 series Warn Tabor...well Magnum series? Would i have to get a Warn winch?

It really depends upon the uses you have for the winch. Are you planning on using the winch a lot, or only for the rare emergency? What type of terrain are you planning on running? Are you planning on running steel cable or synthetic rope? And most importantly, what is your budget.

There are winches in all price ranges and for all types of uses. If you are going to be using it a lot, go for high quality like a Warn. If you plan on going synthetic rope, a winch like the Superwinch EPi9.0 is good because it puts the brake external to the winch, eliminating the worry of melting your synthetic rope. If you only use the winch occasionally and have a tight budget, the Smittybilt XRC8 might be a good choice.

I wanting spend around 600 and not over that. I will be using for emergencies only and not for everyday mudding. The rope really depends on whats better but i'd go either way on what rope. Also depends on what would bolt on this bumper.

Thanks for the advice

For that price range look into a Ramsey or Superwinch if you want to avoid chinese windings.

After riding the fence for a while, ordered a EPi9.0 today, IMO hits the sweet spot between performance, features, and price.

you can get a chicago electric 10,000lb for $599 from harbor freight tools on their website. i have a harbor freight store in town, and the store had them for $499, so i'm not sure why the prices are different, or if there are different versions of their 10,000lb winch. i think it would be worth checking into at least.
i know two guys that have this winch. they don't use them a ton, but they do use them and are happy with them.

That's more than what a Superwinch or Ramsey would cost and the HF has chinese windings. The Ramsey 8500E can be had for $399 and is made in the USA and the Superwinch EPi9.0 for 669.95 shipped. Why by crap from the red chinese. (That's rhetorical, not a question.)

RedRock4x4 has the Superwinch Epi9.0 for it for $589.95 with Free Shipping! That's a very hard price to beat on that winch. And they are a sponsoring vendor too. Here's the link to it.
