I was in moab a couple weeks ago and had this happen to me on the last day. Just got done installing the psc hydro assist, and it is unbelievable. New pump, box, everything. I would highly recommend this. If you do plan on doing, be reminded that is does not come with instructions. I will show you pics of mine and help you if you go that route.

Its simliar to how mine was acting for awhile. The box broke internally in Moab. Then I couldnt steer at all.

PSC has instructions online to download. The important parts of the system, bleeding procedures, reservoir placement and line installation come with the kit.

Dont forget the fluid cooler, You dont want to burn up your new system

Okay, I did a little more analysis of my problem. If my engine rev's are very low--at idle or only slightly above, then the steering is very difficult. If I get a few rev's--maybe about 1000-1500, then steering becomes power-assisted easy. So, I'm leaning to my son was right. I'll say it again: I hate when that happens. I am going to open up the diffy in the morning and check everything out. But I think I won't find anything amiss.

Thoughts?

yep, sounds like the power steering. I ran without power steering fighting with the dealer for almost 6 months until I ended up just finding one that would warranty it. On the trail in 4lo, I would have to give the motor a kick start by putting it in neutral and revving it up and then quickly turning..haha.

I just texted to my son "I think you were right" just now. I figure the phone will start ringing in the next few seconds and he'll be laughing at me. :(

Anyone have advice on changing the power steering pump? I looked at the maintenance procedure and it looks pretty straight-forward. I will get a new pulley with the new pump, right? Or do I need to order that separately? The manual says to not reuse, and it is just plastic.
