Default Wheel offset & 37" Tires

OK I have read the FAQ's about offset and searched the forum...but I no get it.

If I am looking for 17" x 9" aluminum wheels for 37" diameter wheels, what offset is needed?

If you can find 3.75 that would be perfect IMO.

Offset is a different measurement than backspacing.

True, but with a 17x9 wheel and 12.5 or 13.5 tires, you will rub with a backspacing of more than 3.75. I have 17x8 with Toyo 37x13.5 and I rub a little bit so the extra .75 would be perfect.

I have 17x9 with 4.75, but I have a 13.5 inch tire so I left the 1.5 in spacer on. I am very happy with how it turned out.
