Default Wheel spacers, should I be worried?

Debating on installing the new wheel spacers tonight, anything I should know?
Torque specs? 90-100# - Locktite I assume? Re-torque at 100 mi, etc.

Two different tire places said they won't toch it (for future balancing) with the
spacers installed. Seems like a PITA to uninstall them, but more of a pain
dealing with the rubbing.

Also a little worried about one of my wheels passing me on the hwy.

Any advise greatly appreciated,

Ray

Default No Problems!!!

I installed a set spidertrax and became nervous. I was sure something was wrong, felt like I was wobbling, so I took them off after only 115 miles. Then a couple of months later I put them back on. Re-torqued them at about 100 miles and then about 500 miles later. Absolutely, no problems, torque was just fine. Of course, I will still check them every 500 miles or so. I haven't dealt with a tire shop yet but if they turn me down for work. I will take the spacers off and go to another tire shop.

Some say loc tite, ALL the shops I called say NO do not Loc tite. So maybe its just a Spidertrax thing maybe because they are anodized? ( more slick where the lugnut contacts the spacer? ) Just a thought.

I bought some plain brand 1-1/4" spacers off of Ebay from a reputable seller. Torqued them at about 95-96. No loc-tite. Retorqued the rears after about 50 miles , no probs, gonna retorque the fronts tommorrow at about 100 miles.

I don't get any wobbling and they seem fine.

Yeah it seems scary, but how many lugnuts have you lost in your life from them coming loose? 0.

Also, make sure you take off the washer thingies on the stock lug studs and take a wire brush to flake off any loose paint around the mounting area. Get it clean and flat.

Thanks for the advise... NO locktite huh? Hmm seams like a no brainer to use some
sort of thread lock. Maybe I'll try it without it and see how it is after a few miles.

- forgot to mention I got the Teraflex "steel" spacers.

One of the other reasons I'm leary is weight. I already have Toyo 33s (guess
weight of 70# each) which is approx. 40# more per tire than stock.

The Teraflex sacers are heavier than I expected and all that ads to the "un-sprung"
weight which I'm guessing = poor milage and even less wheel to road torque.

I guess I'll be considering re-gearing in the near future.

If the Tera flex instructions say to use Loc tite then use it.

The instructions for mine and shops that i called said no loc tite.

Just follow your instructions.

Thanks Brinks,

The instructions are kinda lacking. No torque specs, or (like you said.) any mention
of locktite. I guess if they need to be re-torqued after 100 miles then locktite wouldn't make sense.

Just being a little paranoid.

I used loc-tite. Just torque them to 105 lb the first time, then back off to 100 lbs the next time you check, then you won't break the seal.

I'm alittle confused. Why would you want to tighten and then loosen ? Honest question.

Don't loosen them, just back the torque wrench setting to 100 lb when you check them after a couple hundred miles, that way it won't break the seal on the lock tite!
