Default wheeling with 15s

i know there are people running 15 on their JKs and was wondering who they were in the trail. From what i've read, its a pretty tight fit, some even requiring some grinding, so how is it wit mud and junk getting in there?
has it caused more problem the a 16 or 17 would? or is it just fine?
i really don't want to do more damage to anything then i need to, or then is going to happen on a setup with larger wheels.
thanks

I am also very interested in 15" rims and would like to know of any problems with trail debris getting between the rim and brake.

The price of tires between 17" and 15" rim is so drastic,

There should not be any issues. Your really should not be getting any branches or anything up in there anyway. A 15" wheel is superior for offroad as it gives you more sidewall. So less chance of hitting the rim on something, and it will give you more sidewall flex. Although the street, a larger wheel will provide for better handling (although it will also cause slower accelleration and braking due to the added rotational mass).
