Do I really need to reprogram? What's the best way to do that? I'm certainly not paying the dealership to do it, they try to rip me of every time I go in there.

I did notice my mpgs took a hit of about 4mpg. From 20 to 16 mpg. I figured that was normal and to be expected. Could I get some of that back by reprogramming?

I think the cheapest way to do it is probably the AEV Procal. It doesn't have as many features as the Superchips for example, but if you just need to reprogram for tire size, it'll do it. You can alter your daytime running lights also, and turn off/adjust your TPMS, along with a few other options. I waited a few weeks before I reprogrammed as well (went from stock to 33's, then 35's), and I thought I was taking a huge hit on mpg's, but it was just the computer needing to be adjusted to the new tire size. Once I reprogrammed, there wasn't actually much noticeable difference in mpg, just power.

Was there a difference in the 'actual measured' tire height? (not the mfg's spec, not the converted metric value, but the actual measured height of both tires). It isn't all that uncommon for two tires from different mfg's that indicate the same height to vary by an inch. I don't see a 1" increase causing a 4 mpg drop, just asking to ask.

If you decide you do want to calibrate, the AEV Procal and Superchips FlashCal are good options. If you want to try for a bit of a performance boost also, there are plenty of threads on the popular tuners that are available.

Sorry guys, my new tire size is 285 70 17, my bad.

Did anyone else reprogram after making the same tire change?

Reprogramming for tire size only corrects your speedo. I used an Aeroforce interceptor to do mine. It has the added ability of allowing you to monitor key motor functions as it is a gauge you install in the tub. It also allows you to reprogram gears to correct shift points if you need to do that eventually. Certainly not as powerful as the procal, but you get use out of it every day, not just when your reprogramming. If you are a heavy modder, then you probably want the procal. Just my 2 cents.

and on automatics gets your shift points where Chrysler intended them to be.

True. My point was, even though I was not very clear, was that it doesn't improve your gas mileage. At least to my knowledge.

I thought it was the gear setting that controls shift points.
