When to use lockers!
I just had a front and rear Zip locker installed and I am wondering when should I lock the rear, and when to lock both. D30 front & D44 rear. I have never had lockers so I am looking for the right info. I know Zips ain't the best, but I don't plan on doing major rock crawling anyway. All replies are appreciated....
Only use them when off roading and one tire is planted and one is spinning with no traction. Pretty simple. Leave em unlocked all other times.

This advice given to me was do as much wheeling as you can without lockers first. This helps establish a good feel for how capable a Jeep already is without lockers. I don't have lockers and I have done everything the rubicons I roll with have done. Maybe sometimes it takes a better line or more effort. Nonetheless, I get it done. I will eventually get lockers, there are obstacles that I'll need them for. But again, it's good to learn with them at first.
One thing to keep in mind that if you are taking a hard line and go open/open, you sometimes put more stress on your driveline components because you might be spinning more or sliding off the line. In some of those cases, if you have lockers engaged, you can crawl better and stay on the line.
Not saying this is always the case as I've needed to use the skinny pedal and bump it even with both lockers on but in the cases where you can avoid that, it reduces the chance of breaking something.
I still try most trails without my lockers engaged but if I see a rig in front of me bouncing all over the place, lockers go on immediately as I would prefer to limit the potential for damage.

I lock the rear when I hit the trail, i will unlock it on side hill or off camber stuff to keep from sliding down the hil. .
the fronts I lock as needed. Much easier to pick your way through something locked rather than trying to power through.
