Default Where do I mount my winch?

I was thinking the hood, no maybe the roof. Just kidding, I'm looking for thoughts on mounting it above the frame rails, mid frame rail or flush with the bottom of the rails. not worried about cooling issues as i'm up north of Edmonton

Most bumpers mount the winch in between the rails, but technically, the base sits at the bottom of the frame. IMO, that's the best way to mount a winch, in between the frame.

will it not get packed full of mud and or snow, what about river crossings, i would like to keep it up for those reasons. it can't be that bad to have it sit on top.

I mounted mine on top of the frame rails, I am in fort st john so I know about the mud and snow/ice, I made a mount for the control box to keep it out of the elements and water and also make it easy to plug in the hand control.

Do you wheel alot?

JKBUNNY: I really like that Aberle bumper!

I have one of these that was used on my Girl friends jeep and would like to get rid of it as well, it worked well till she wanted a real front bumper.

For that price, get the Expedition One Basic front stubby/winch mount bumper. At $160, you can't go wrong. What I have.

Wow that's expensive !!! I would put the $359 towards an aftermarket front bumper with an integrated winch mount

I used a universal mount plate from Harbor Freight for $30.00. Just took slight trimming to fit. Of course I mounted mine upside down on top of frame rails, but would work standard as well.
