I am not sure if this is a stock or aftermarket hose. I changed my rear axle to a Dynatrac 60 and after wheeling the last time, this hose showed up hanging down. I rand my hands across the pumpkin but did not feel a whole it should plug into. I though perhaps someone could tell me what I am looking for.
Diff breather tube it looks like. Should see one end hooked to the axle, and the other end should travel passenger side frame rail.....and you should extend it realy up behind the passenger tail light.
Hose connects to this barb, other end travels up to a save location it won't be covered during a water crossing. Just a breather tube for the diff. You can get some cheap fuel line from auto parts store, run that up behind the rear pass wheel well liner, and there is a hole that passes back to the cubby behind the pass taillight.
you have one up front too....that barb is directly on the diff. since the axle seals are at the pumpkin, the breaker needs to be from the pumpkin itself. in the rear, your seals are out at the end of the tubes, so the breather is instead on the tube itself.

So I am guessing dirty water may have gotten in. Do I need to worry?
Ugh, if you've done a water crossing......that's not ideal. If it were me, and I knew I'd been sumberging the axle, I would drain it, remove the cover, clean things up good with brake clean, and put new oil in. UGGGHHH, I might even go so far as to remove the rear shaft and clean all the way down the tubes too. I wouldn't want water/moisture in there at all. Just me though.
I am so impressed with my Jeep now. I also bought the Flashpaq and chipped the Jeep. Wow, lots more power. Thanks for your help. So I can say with certainty, there was no water in the axle.

If you haven't had it submerged, then no need to worry about it. I wouldn't even worry if you'd been driving in the rain.....only if that thing had been underwater.
