Why all the confusion
After my last thread I started researching evey freaking brand of 4in to 4.5in lift and what they consist of. My biggest question is whats up with the drive shaft some kits say all you need is exhaust change others front drive shaft and read one to say both and to a CV style. Can someone clear this up for me so I can make the right choice
From what I understand the only lift the doesn't require you to change drive shafts at a lift of 3" or more is AEV. Sure some people mostly 4dr are getting away without changing them for a period of time. But on a 2dr or 4.5 lift you will definitely need different shafts due the angle they will be sitting at.
it is determined by the extended shock length. the shock is what limits your travel. longer will allow contact between driveshaft and crossover. aev was mentioned because they simply have the bilsteins spec'd to droop just before contact occurs. if u buy a kit without shocks and then add some shocks that say 2.5"-4" lift, u will prob hit. not only do aftermarket shafts have different joints that are better for the steeper angles, but they are also narrower in diameter giving u a bit more clearance.
