Never underestimate the power of stupid people who have never owned a jeep or 4wd or even driven one. You won't see one complain when you are pulling them out of a snow bank or some other place they couldn't get out of because they didn't have the traction or the clearance. There's my ten cents my two cents were free

Not to get too political but the question should not be "why is this unsafe" it should be why the state is involved in the first place.

Our loss of freedoms continually come from laws that are designed to make life more "safe" or often "fair,"

Freedom involves letting people make poor decisions (not that I think this is one of them). But we can't have it both ways. Let life be unsafe (which it will always be) and unfair (which it will always be) and free, or let it become less free and still not be fair or safe.

Well if you're a cop, can you tell us how many times you've pulled someone over and gotten out your measuring tape to verify the height of a vehicle or its tires?

Usually if you want to know why any government does anything you just follow the money. Insurance companies collect statistics on accidents and anything that costs them money. If they find a correlation with larger tires and accidents they send their team of lobbyists to convince legislators that it is in their best interest (read campaign donations) to pass a law against what they have found to cost them money.

It is rare to find a group large enough to organize against the passage of these laws so the money usually wins against the small group being targeted. It's easy to get enough people to hate anyone who enjoys something that you don't care about so there is little opposition.

Imagine for example that car insurance companies found chrome distracted drivers causing accidents. How many on this forum would say, "yeah, chrome is lame" and never bother to call a representative to stop the bill passing. The representative knows if he votes for the bill he gets cash from the insurance companies and little backlash from the voters. A small group will complain that covering their H2 in chrome is their god given right but most people would ignore a law that doesn't affect them.

The secret to politics is divide and conquer. As long as you only screw a small group at a time you have a chance at not pissing off enough voters to keep you in office.

I knew this would spark this debate and I agree!!!

What makes me angry is that I see pieces of crap on the road everyday that should be in the junk yard, yet my vehicle which is gone over meticulously on a weekly basis with absolutely no mechanical defects is the one getting looked at.

With that said, speaking of all the mechanical systems in the Jeep, what mechanically is the harm for going to my 35's that would relate to getting it inspected? I am looking for some good solid info against this 2" limit. The only issue is that the sticker on the door ham says 225/75/16 and they are going from that. I say there is no difference between that and the Rubicon 32" mechanically.
