Because it is YOUR vehicle, you're sweat, blood, tears and great nights in the garage with music on and a beer installing something that you know will give YOU satisfaction. Not for the look or the showoff factor. I mod my cars for me, very happy to drive them on empty roads, tracks and trails with no-one watching and content that the machine is something you have played a personal part in during her creation.

For me it's 2 things.

1: I don't trust most "Mechanics" to do the work properly, and the dealer is just to expensive

2: It's fun to do the work with my 6 year old son hanging out with me asking questions and talking about all of the cool (Not possible) things we can do with a jeep, like drive over sky scrapers etc. :-)

I work on mine because I'm broke. I don't mind working on it but if I had a big roll, I'd just send mine to Evo or somewhere with a list.

This is one of the ONLY reasons I have somebody else work on my jeep. If I am not sure of my ability to do the project or I do not have the proper tools/equipment to do it, I will take it to a reputable shop.

All of the above, plus in the long run it is less work to do the work than it is to keep going back until someone else finally gets it right!

Also, I'm more forgiving of my own mistakes than someone else's.

There is nothing like taking a grinding and cutting wheel to steel, especially when you paid for it. Power tools all the way.

The initial build was done by a shop with a long running reputation in Jeep builds. Only had them do what I couldn't do myself without voiding the factory warranty since all the work was contracted out through the dealership when I bought it. Most the problems that I have had are related to the changes made in the 2012 models.
