Default Will 4.88 work with 35" and 37" tires.

Hi have 35" BFG KM2 for about 2 years now and I would like to upgrade my 4:10 to 4:56 [6 speed manual]. I plan to get a set of 37" tires in a 2 years. So did not want to change my gearing twice. I was wondering if I should go with 4:88 which may work for both. I could go 5:13 but that may just be way to much??? This my daily driver for now but I also use it offroad.

Any thoughts?

4.88s would be the right choice for either. Definitely more power delivered to the wheels with 4.88s and the 35s, but the 4.88s are certainly suitable for 37s.

Here's the gear chart from the FAQ,

Thanks for the chart! I have seen this before but totally for got about it. It looks like I could go with 4:56. Any idea what the difference between 4:56 and 4:88? MPG, offroad tork? Thanks again!

4.88's are the right choice for manual transmission jk's. Auto transmission jk's looking to upgrade to 35 or 37" tires I would suggest 5.38's.

firemanmac on here has 513's with a manual.

he told me that @ 65 mph he gets about 3k rpms with his 35's

he recently put on 37's and he is now at 2.8k rpms.

ask him, he's got first hand experience...

I would really advise going with the 4.88s. Less stress on driveline components off road and only a moderate bump in rpms on road at highway speeds. Additionally, although the gear chart does take into consideration weights from heavier tires, there isn't a lot of margin for error. Those who have followed the chart and the majority of others recommendations have nearly to a person been very happy. When they deviate from those, that is where you really get into a lot of people who say "If I had it to do over again........".

Pushing Toyo 35s with 5:13. I wouldn't do anything less than that especially if you're going with 37s in the future.

Been running the 4.88's with 315R16 for a couple years and it was good. Went to the 39's and it was okay. I have 37's on the 4.88's and it's good again! I'd go with the 5.38's if I had the Dana60's I want.
