You'll 100% clear the caliper. As for the rubbing? You're 100% gonna rub. I'd skip buying the used Rubicon take-offs coils/shocks. You're waayyyyy better off running a cheap budget boost, or even some basic 2-2.5" coil springs. You'll notice hardly any lift with those Rubi coils on your 4 door. 2 door owners can pull it off, but even then they usually trim their fenders.

Otherwise you'd see stock 4 door Rubi's running 35's aloooot more if it were that simple. A budget boost will run you around $100-150. Coils will obviously be a little more.

No, the 4.5" backspacing will not stick out as much as your current wheels...so you should seriously consider at least a budget boost/puck lift. Especially if you're not doing the work yourself...it'll cost you more down the road. If you are doing the work yourself...you can try, but you'd be wasting your time.

Those 315/75/16's are a 35x12.5 tire.

Is 4.5'' of backspacing good or bad as far as rubbing and clearing the caliper?
16" rims will clear the calipers, regardless of backspace. It is only when you move down to 15" rims that it becomes an issue.

The general recommendation you will see for 35x12.50's is a 4.50" backspace. This is for clearance inward - the frame/links/arms/etc. As noted several times, you are still likely to rub on things like flares/pinch seam/rubi rails/etc.

In other words, would these stick out as much as the current 3.75'' backspace wheels I have or not?
Stock rims are 6.25" backspace. As that number goes down, the rims move further out. 4.50" moves the tires out 1.75". 3.75 backspace moves them out 2.50". (plus a bit more due to any difference in rim width/tire width)

I'm trackin. Thanks for taking the time to explain this!

The Jeep in my avi is my old 4 door. I'm now in a 2 door so the rubi takeoffs would bring me up an inch or an inch and a half....you think that would be enough to run 35s? If not, how bout I throw a puck in there, would that be enough?

Also, would 16x8.5 5-127.00 -6 tires fit on a 315/75/16 wheel?

Alternatively, I'm looking at some 35x12.5x15 on my current rim. Don't know if this has much of a difference as far as rubbing is concerned considering the back spacing is .75'' less. Would I be faced with the same problems as the tires listed above?

Oh sweet, with the 2 door you should see some gain in height. I'd still toss in a spacer lift if I were you, or at least 1" coil spacers. When I first got my JK I tossed on some 35x12.5x15 MTR's and a 2.5" cool lift. Still had the stock fenders and it had enough room to flex a little with no fender trimming. It'd be similar to how your 4 door sat stock on the 33x12.5's.

I was running 35x12.5's on a 15x8 wheel, so you'll have absolutely no problems. I was able to air down to 8psi and never blew a bead (even on some very flexy trails). The 8" wide wheel will act as a "poor-mans beadlocks" so it's actually a good thing. Would make more sense than moving up 1" in wheel diameter.

The stance with 3.75" backspacing had absolutely no issues....and it looked nice! I say go for it!

They're fine. If you bring up the specs list for the tire, you will see a 'recommended rim width'. The only time you might have a problem is that some tire shops will not mount tires that are wider/narrower than this recommendation.

No difference. Again, with those backspaces, we are only talking about rubbing upward, not inward. The taller tire moves up some distance, and it hits the flare, the pinch seam, the end of the rock rail, whatever it happens to be. The backspacing just means that the tire will show the rub at the 3-4" mark across the tread, or 4-5" out on the tread. Right?
