A few simple things.

Electric is the most common, easiest, & cheapest

A winch rating is what it will do on the last wrap of cable at full amp draw. With each addtional wrap of cable the max torque is reduced. When you use a winch you seldom if ever unwrap enough cable to be using the last wrap so buy bigger. I suggest at least a 9,000lb for a jeep. If you look at my sig I have a 12,000 but i'm into overkill.

You also need rigging like straps, pulley, shackels, chain, etc. get these before you "upgrade" to a syn rope.

Like in all things you get what you pay for, so I would not go cheap. That does not mean you can't shop around and get the best price for the quality winch you seek. Know the model you want and bide your time for sale.

I got the xrc10 comp (syn) from 4wd.com and bought a lifetime warranty for $50 that even covers the line. considering the winch with the warranty was less than half the cost of a warn, I couldn't go any other way (at least for stage one of my build). My nickname has always been mr. bigger better faster but as I've gotten older, I've gotten more practical. A few years ago, I would have never touched anything but a warn. The lifetime guarantee, even on the line was the clincher for me...

is the mile marker SI-12000 any good? it is a pretty good price but i noticed that it is a 24v and the SI-9500 is a 12v, does that make a big difference in draining my battery

Another consideration: The Warn PowerPlant includes a built-in air compressor. I can assure you that at after a run at the trailhead, you will be a really popular guy if you have one of these! Just be aware that not all bumpers fit the PowerPlant--most do, but anyone interested in it should make sure it doesn't kebash their bumper plans.

My vote goes to the Smittybilt 10,000lb with synthetic line....Ya I would of liked to buy a warn, but for the money $510.00 free shipping, how could you go wrong. Easy install and it fit my Rugged Ridge winch mount bumper perfect.

this winch is "cool" and all, but remember if the compressor breaks and have to send in for repairr, then there goes ur winch also. for that amount of money get a cheaper winch and seperate air compressor.

i still recomend warn though, just not this one
