Thoughts of winches on factory bumpers? And factory conversions bumper kits?

It's definitely functional and inexpensive to install a winch on the stock bumper, most of the plates are around 100 bucks give or take.

Depending on the winch it can create quite an airflow obstruction. If that's not an issue or you have a lower profile puller in mind, that's my two pennies.

I like my winch as low as possible, but they are some economical bumper options that accommodate a sunken winch mount. Or fab has a stubby for about 400. Of course the China specials can be had for a couple hundred, and are widely available and purchased on eBay and Amazon alike. Have a couple local shops producing quality stuff for under 500, if you can find a local shop that is realistic in their pricing.

Really all the jk bumpers are a brake pressed steel plate bent over twice and trimmed to fit with ends welded on, roughly of course.

I installed mine upside down between the frame rails. Works great.

I had mine mounted on an RR winch plate for over a year until I upgraded to a Warn stubby. Used many times with no issues. I actually have my winch plate for sale if you're close to Florence, SC. I think I paid like 140. I'm letting it go for 70.

I am looking at adding a winch plate and Smittybilt X2O 10,000 winch. I wish there were more pictures and installation videos available for these winch plates.

The JKU is so heavy to start that I am very hesitant to add any extra weight. I installed Rough Country stubby caps, will be installing a Rock Hard winch plate with a Superwinch Talon winch. Extra weight adds stress to the rest of the drivetrain. And if I damage a bumper, they can be had on Craigslist for really cheap.

It mounts to the frame. It is an easy install. I have installed several now and the only issue is rockhard supplies two bolts that are to short. Not sure why they don't supply ones that are 1/4" longer and grade 8 but they are easy to get so I just recommend getting them.
