Default Winch Cover or Not?

Okay. I haven't had a winch for many years. I am intalling one on my JK next week (when it comes in). With the new winches do you need a cover for them or are they fine left uncovered generally? If covers should be used, what covers are the most secure/protective?

I use one on mine. I'm in NY so it snows in the winter and they pour generous amounts of salt on the roads. Plus, ice freezing on it doesn't make it easier to use it when winter wheeling. If you're in a dry climate without any snow, I'd say leave it off. If not, get one.

I have a Warn winch and purchased the Warn Neoprene cover that is made for my winch. Fits really tight, and still easy to remove when needed. We have a lot of snow and salt on the roads as well, and this does a good job of keeping the winch clean

I don't know about that bumper. I mounted my winch upside down in the factory bumper to retain the crash can and I really like it. The winch is tucked under the front bumper so you can't steal it and I don't have to cover it. I sure would cover it and keep the cable lubed if it was exposed.

I use a neoprene cover on mine in the winter months. Works great.

if you use a synthetic line you should use a winch cover; depending on the line, UV will weaken it over time. mine began to fade after a couple of years and now is fraying. you should check with the manufacturer of your line (if you have one) to see if this is an issue.
