Default Winch help

I've come across what I think is a great deal on a winch. Superwinch EPi 9.0 w/ synthetic line for $550. It's brand new but from a private seller. Is this winch sufficient for an Unlimited? Should I wait a while and get a 10-12K lb winch? I figure w/ shipping and taxes I'd likely pay more like 700-800 for this winch. Thanks for your advice/input.

I have the same winch on my unlimited and of works great. I have pulled out of deep mud with no issues. That is a great price for one with synthetic.

I have a Warn 9000i and I wished I had a 12,000lbs winch. I am having to double purchase most of the time with a turn block. Especially when I am winching on a Hummer or another JK. Unless you are a mall crawler or do light trails I would go bigger.

My .02 worth.

That's an excellent price!! Mine is on a coupe, but I've winched a number of JK sedans with no issues. It is a very fast, as well as strong, winch.

9000 pounds should be enough pull. When you're winching, are you positioning yourself such that you have only a half dozen or so wraps on the spool? If you have too much line on the spool, then you're giving up a lot of pulling power--perhaps as much as half.

My Warn 9000i has never failed me. I agree that you have to make sure you have enough wraps still on the drum, but this is true with any winch.

Well, actually my comment was to not have too many wraps on the drum. That significantly reduces pulling power.
