I try to buy as much made in the USA items as I can. I am guessing that Mile Marker is made in China since their web page says they have a manufacturing plant in China. What about that Warn M8000 you bought? Did it have a country of origin stamp on it?

if you only go 3-4 times a year, want to save some $, and may only be doing light winching, i would reccomend a manual winch (like the high lift jack winch setup)

This will be the first time I've had to buy a new winch. My 99TJ has a Ramsey Patriot 9500 that I got from a friend on the cheap, but I had to replace two of the solenoids, no big deal.

My 06LJ has a barn find Warn M8274 circa late 70s. Just had to take it apart to clean and inspect it and replace the wiring. Even had the remote. Paid the barn owner $100.

So now my 2011 2 door needs a winch. Probably going to buy the Warn M8000 or maybe the Ramsey REP 8.5E since they are made in the US. Unless I get lucky again and find an inexpensive used one.

Default I have seen warn type's to smittybilt type's give up the ghost

They all can and have become nonoperable.
For electric no matter what winch you get, all of them are battery eater's.
Recommended minimum Battery: 650CCA or bigger for Winching.
Rarely you won't see full load on a winch but if it does 400 to 600 amp's the winch can draw.

Default M8000 here

I run the warn m8000 and found it at $575 and that's in BC Canada which stands for Bring Cash (actually British Columbia). Works great, has had enough pulling power for me (so far) and it's warn so it should last forever.

Plus look how pretty it is.

I have the Smittybilt XRC8 w/ synthetic line brought from Amazon for about $400.. I have not had any issues with it at all and I have used it in quite a few situations since I bought it last December... It does not free spool very easily and thats probably the only complain that I have... But when it comes to pulling it works like a champ.. It fit perfectly with my RR XHD bumper and did not need any modifications.. Also the synthetic line is much easier to handle than steel..
And for $100 more, I would go with the XRC10 (10000lb)...
