Default Winch Help

Hello all,
I am looking for some Ideas as to what is broken on my Winch. I have a Warn 9.5 xp That will only work in one direction (winding up). I tested the remote with a Ohm Meter and I think it is working. Across two of the pins I will get 0 Ohms when the winding button is pressed. The weird thing is when I press the Unwinding button I will get 0 ohms across the same two pins . I really don't understand how the winch knows when to wind up or unwind.
Another test I did was listening for a click by the solenoid when pressing he unwinding button. Their was no click. That would make me believe the solenoid is bad if all the correct signals from the remote are getting to the solenoid.
Is their a better way to test the remote? Or does someone have a drawing/schematics of the remote circuity, cause right now I am at a loss on how this remote works.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Update: found the operators manual on line. Any other Ideas would help.

V/R JJ

Have you cleaned/checked all your connections, even inside the control box?

O yea I cleaned out the control box today and even tested the Voltage going to the Solenoids from the battery. It read 14.5 Volts across two of the bars and 0 across the other two bars. I would not think that it is the winch itself because I dont hear the Solenoid clicking but weirder things have happened.

Thanks for the feedback Scott.

No problem. I'm far from a winch expert but do have some mechanical ability I would agree with you in regard to it being either solenoid or controller. Unfortunately, that's all I got.

I do not have a Warn but will try to help. How many wires go to the remote? Does the remote have a toggle switch or individual button type switches? If there are more than three wires connecting to the remote, then there is probably electronics in the the remote that will prevent you from ohming it out.
On the solenoid there should be three conections for the coils, one common and one for in and one for out. you might be able to decide which are which and use a wire to short between the common and the others to see if it runs both directions. Warn might help you troubleshoot it also.

DGOJK thanks for the Feedback. To answer your first question Their is 5 pins in the plug for the remote. The operation manual I have does not show the inards of the remote which would really help lol. But it does show the control box which will help for shorting out the solenoid to identify if it works (great Idea). It did not occur to me that their may be more to the remote than wires and a switch. The switch looks like a toggle type but I can not be sure. I am thinking that it is two seperate switchs. It also has a light build in I just found out. I will try the to bypass the remote tomarrow when their is more light. thanks again for the assistance.

Good luck. My son picked up a used Mile Marker and it did not work. I found a stuck contact in the soleniod and a bad hand switch. It uses some transistors and relays so you cannot troubleshoot the hand switch. I am thinking of just putting in a toggle switch rather than replacing the hand control.

I know a couple of people that have had the same problem. It sounds like its one set of the solenoids. You can call warn and they can confirm this.
