Default Winch Help/Advice, Synthetic Rope!

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a warn vr10000 but still debating on wether to go with steel or synthetic rope. I know all of the pros and cons of each and would definitely like to go with the synthetic rope.

My problem: I am not a fan of having a neoprene cover over my winch full time. From the research I've done I've gathered that steal cable is fine to have without a cover but it is highly recommended to to use a winch cover if you have synthetic line due to UV rays weakening the line and causing corrosion.

Those of you guys that are running synthetic line:

What are you doing (if anything) to protect your rope??
What has been your experience with corrosion?

I read here on the forum that Warn may choose to not honor the warranty if they feel the winch has been uncovered and left to the elements when not in use. Knowing that might make it easier to decide.

Yeah i have checked on that too, no cover available designated for vr series. So you dont use any cover? How long have you had it/ how is it holding up for you?

Also, there are UV treatments you can put on the synthetic rope, that will protect it from UV. A sunscreen basically. Might want to look into that if you don't want to use a cover. Also, alot of the better ropes are UV treated from the factory.. Just another cog to look into before you purchase.

In the same boat. I bought a MileMarker Scout with synthetic. I also bought a cover at the same time. HATED the look of the cover...its in the for sale section now. This is what I've done...covered the exposed portion near the eye/hook with good quality black electrical tape. Measured the winch and cut some "weed fabric" that I had left over from a yard project years ago to fit around the drum. I cut two pieces of the fabric and doubled them up because one piece was still "see thru". Its held on with mini bungees. The fabric isn't solid so I figure it will still air out after a rain. I'll see how long it lasts, but right now it works great and looks good too.

HMmm... Very interesting!
Would you happen to know what this UV protectant is called and where I could get ahold of one?

I think I'm going to end up getting the Warn VR10000 with Warn's Spydura Synthetic rope. From what I hear it is a really good rope, I imagine it already comes treated with some uv protectant??
