Default Winch Issue (Warn M8000)

Hey guys,

Went out Sunday and did some snow wheeling. The snow turned out to be quite a bit deeper in spots than I had expected and I ended up using the winch a few times to get back up some hills and such. At the end of a pull I was getting ready to spool the line back in and when I press the control button all I get is a click from the solenoid box.

I did a little research and it looks like I should start trying to fix the problem by going through and cleaning all of the connections. My question (besides has anyone else had a similar experience) is what should I use to clean any crap out of the solenoid box and to clean the connections with? A wire brush?

Thanks!

I'd recommend that you call Warn for recommendations. Their technical support is very helpful. I'd give you the answers if I had them though.

What works for me is WD-40 and a wire brush. If you can get some dialectic grease, you can put some on to both waterproof and enhance the connections. However, a good dousing of WD-40 works well too.

You might try carrying a can of dubia with you on the trail. It might have been enough to get your winch to work. The WD stands for "Water Displacement" after all!!

BTW - I used to have an M8000 on my YJ - that thing has been around for a long time! Used to have the same problem if the solenoid pack got doused real good. That's why I know the WD-40 trick works well.

Thanks for the WD recommendation, I'll give that a try tonight and if it's still a no go I'll call Warn tomorrow.

I experienced similar problems back in the day, for me it was just like when I dropped my cell phone in the toilet at the bar....it'll dry out and work fine in a couple days.

What kinda crap in the connections? If it's corrosion, the absolute best thing in the world to get rid of it is.......you ready for this? Cocola. Yeah. I know it sounds stupid. Pop open a can and try it. Then just hose it off.
