Default Winch Maintainance

I recently installed a mile marker 8000# winch... i was wondering are there certain things i need to do to keep it working right? i believe i saw a thread about this before but searching proved worthless
any help would be great!
also what about getting them wet? like water crossing wet..

the manual should say something. At a minimum, keep things clean and tight, inspect electrical connections and cables for fraying, winch line for fraying......

I have a Warn but all it tells me to do is keep it clean and it takes care of itself. Unless you submerge it, then there is a bunch of stuff.

Yeah that's what my manual says for my Power Plant with the exception of making sure the intercooler is drained.

Yep:

A lot of the newer winches are sealed up fairly tight. Unless you completely dunk the thing, you should be golden. Wipe it down from any particularly nasty trail ride and make sure no water gets sprayed in the gear housing at any car wash. I bought a neoprene cover to protect my 9.5ti from the elements. Something along this line:

And they also make a cover for the roller fairlead as well (if you are so equipped):

Be careful, the fairlead cover protects from rust but also eliminates a potential mounting spot for your front license plate (for those states that require it). I hope this helps.
