Default winch maintenance question

I own a superwinch, epi9s. It's about a year old. In the manual it describes a maintenance routine of removing a drain nut, engage the clutch and run the winch motor 10-12 seconds at a pop until the motor housing is warm to the touch. Then, replace the drain nut in the hole.

Does anyone do this?

Any advice on winch maintenance for a first time winch owner?

Thanks.
